Before you load up

Get a better grade for your copper

  • Keep bright wire, tube, burnt copper and insulated wire in separate bags or bins — mixed loads are paid at the lowest grade in the mix.
  • Cut off brass fittings, solder lumps and steel brackets where you can.
  • Insulated wire is graded by how much copper is inside it, so keep thick cable apart from thin household wire.
